Observations of the Czech Society #2

It's important to learn the basic language in a new country, so we bought a children's word book

Of course we were impressed about the word content, vrtulnik and veverka come up quite often in our daily life - and we are very keen on following the local topless and pig-faced badminton scene

Lumi and the cats connecting

" I wonder where the cats are ..."
(Lumi wanted to add, that she was having the first fever of her life during this day, therefore no smile)

"There is one"

Yes, half of my weight is on this one ...

"Let's hug!"

Lumi and Siini

Flattering Fashions

Kimmo's mother found this brown ribbed turtleneck in her stash of baby clothes, and we feel it gives Lumi a nice retro vibe, especially when paired with corduroy pants.

Petrin Tower

These are from our touristic outing to Petrin Tower a few weeks ago.  Lumi was wearing her government-issue balaclava!

I'm proud of my handyman

Though most homes in Helsinki (that I have seen) have a water sprayer next to the toilet, that doesn't seem to be very standard in Prague.  And while we don't use it all the time to 'refresh' ourselves, it is a game-changer if you have a household member wearing cloth diapers.  I understand that the standard thing to do if you don't have a sprayer is 'dunk' a poo-covered diaper in the toilet and swish it around, thereby loosening said poo, before you throw it in the diaper pail to be washed.  As you can imagine, this gets gross in no time.  So...we set about to install our own sprayer, following the directions from here.  It was very challenging, because of course we're now operating in a place where we don't speak or read the language, and also the hardware available is quite different.  And of course here they don't have the kitchen sink sprayers like in the US, so we were using the one bidet sprayer we found in Bauhaus.  Kimmo did a great job figuring everything out and installing it, and now we have a sprayer!
Here is a close-up of the attachment.
You have to reach down and open the water valve before the water comes into the sprayer.

Cars

Following in her cousin Elmo's footsteps, Lumi is playing with cars a lot these days, rolling them back and forth excitedly.  We hope to get a video of this soon.  She has one matchbox-style car and one Lego car and loves them both.

Besties

Mr. Lau pretends that he doesn't like Lumi, but he can't resist sitting close.

Defending Fort Lumster

Bring it, suckers.

Attack coming from the left!

Now attack coming from straight on!

Done!

Fort Lumster safe again.

A day with Mummu

Mummu was in town for the annual Sweden-Finland track meet, and we spent one of the last beautiful summer days of the year together.

First, we had some play time in the living room while getting dressed.

Then brunch at Cafe Jugend.

Then Lumi got to learn about berries from the expert.

Look at all those Finnish lingonberries!

And finally an afternoon drink at La Famiglia.
