Otso: 3 Years, 6 Months
Summary
The bear is 3 and a half! While he has kept up the big tantrums, he also is showing himself to be a comedian when he is in a good mood. He likes to make funny faces and to make people laugh.
Learning/Development
He has learned to help put dishes away.
Language
The "tr" sound is still "f".
And sometimes "r" in general is hard (break -> "blake", friend -> "flend", etc)
He loves to inform us what they say in barnehage, so we get a lot of Norwegian translation from him.
Toys/Games/Other
He still loves the "perler" beads. He seems to be off the puzzle kick.
He was thrilled with the Lego magazines that vaari and Leena brought, though the interest is mostly in the little Lego guy that came with each one. One is Batman in a kilt. He likes to take to it bed to sleep with and then hunt for the helmet (which inevitably falls off during the night) in the morning.
He is creative with his Lego creations. Most of the time he makes some kind of airplane or something that "can fly", but he adds different stuff and explains the functionality (this part makes it go faster, this part is where they trap the bad guys, this part enables it to go on water too, etc)
He likes books, but becomes most interested when he has to find things in the picture.
We took his scooter with us to Milan, and he and Diego had a grand time getting around together. He tried the balance bike there but burst into tears and called it a "silly baby bike" so apparently he isn't ready for it.
Social
He was excited to help little Marie when she visited, but he and Clemence didn't spend very much time together.
He really enjoyed both Diego and Gemma in Milan.
Eating
Favorites: eggs, ice cream, pancakes, chicken.
He doesn't always eat as well as he used to, but then he'll go on a spree of being insatiable.
Sleeping
He sleeps in his own bed most nights these days. He likes to take something to snuggle with, but sometimes it's a little Lego guy.
Health
When he brushes his teeth, he is getting rid of "the bad guys" and then he even shows us how the bad guys are the little brown and black specks in the sink after he spits.
5.4 dentist check up. Despite many practice sessions in the last couple of weeks, he spent the time in the office screaming, "I don't want to go to the dentist!" he resisted every step of the way. The dentist waited a bit but then we told her that he probably wouldn't calm down so we should just do it. We told the dentist that we would hold him down and she forced the mirror in his mouth and checked. He continued screaming after the examination, and even refused to pick out a toy.

26.3 he described that when we go camping, Isä won't fit in the tent with us and will have to sleep in the car (which is the plot of a Peppa Pig episode). Then he said "but we don't have a car. He will have to sleep in the stroller."
He likes to sniff the daffodils and announce that they smell like yellow.
When he is mad and stomps off, now he says angrily "bye bye!" and it could not be cuter. We have to hide our smiles.

Lumi: 6 Years, 2 Months
Summary
Lumi continues to grow little by little. This month we have had the pleasant transition from winter to spring, and she is happy to be out on her bike and scooter again.
Social
Helmine is her best friend.
She played some with Clémence during the visit, but by the last day she was very frustrated and having a hard time sharing.
She liked having a baby around and said that Marie really likes her.
Leisure
She really likes this stuffed animal her friend has, and uses a kind of weird baby voice for it.
First shooting toy: a figure with a gun that shoots a plastic projectile (kind of like a dull dart?), from McDonalds.
17.3 They watched the movie "Inside Out" at barnehage (in part of a unit on feelings) and she loved it so much that she watched it 4 times in English over the weekend.
She loves working with scissors. She calls it "clipping" (norwegian = 'klippe'). She did paper dolls with vaari, and she also likes to put a sticker on paper and then cut that out.
She has mostly embraced the idea of giving clothes that are too small to a younger kid, and same with toys. Especially in anticipation of the move, it is truly wonderful. On 25.3, she helped me clean out the costumes and she was impressively cutthroat and we got rid of about half our box.
Learning
She was delighted to start spelling a few short words like "no" and "ei". She seems to be inching toward reading, and trying to sound out new words.
14.3 she made her own bed! We haven't even asked her to do that.
22.3 she was proud that she did her on ponytail in the morning. she said it wasn't perfect but it was done. :)
Language
She still speaks English to Kimmo most of the time, but her English and Norwegian come easily.
Food
6.3 she pushed aside the mini hamburgers (which used to be the only way we could get her to eat burgers) and took two regular sized hamburgers and announced "six year olds don't eat mini burgers".
She did a great job eating while Vaari and Leena were here. She tried lots of things, and gamely ate most of the items. I mentioned this during their last dinner here and Lumi explained, "that's because they make such good food!". Note: she also was a keen observer when vaari was prepping the fish.
20.3 she ate a few leaves of fresh spinach off my plate and declared it "delicious".
Health
New tooth! Her two bottom front teeth are growing in, but she also got the first eruption of a 6 year molar (top right).
(I suppose we have to admit that we did not expect them and after a week of a weird bump back there we scheduled a dentist appointment to check it out. Lumi had suggested that it was a tooth, and I did not think so. She was delighted to be right, and even more delighted that äiti was wrong.)
