Lumi's 27th Month

Events

14/4 - first backyard barbeque of the season, with Pedro and Roli and their families.
20/4 - 23/4 - trip to barcelona to visit maria, pasi, elmo, veera, and elsa. She had a great time in Barcelona, especially with Elmo.
27/4 - zoo with olivia and family.
The big news of the month is that we are expecting another baby. Lumi is mainly confused about it for now, but she is gradually making sense of it, and even learned to say "Lumi big sister!"

Food

She loves broth from soup. She loves yogurt. She still drinks milk in the morning most days (though we did some watered down juice during the sickness).

Language

english is currently the strongest speaking language, though she definitely is able to code switch with kimmo and speak finnish, and at school to switch to czech. the trip to barcelona seemed to be a big boost for finnish. Lumi also got confused between the names 'Maria' (her aunt) and 'Maru' (her friend's mother).

Learning

She still has a problem with colors (for which we blame Grandpa and the 'blue!' enthusiasm during our US visit). Numbers are coming more easily, though she still does 8 after 11. She is learning what red lights mean and green lights mean.

Behavior

We're having a hard time lately. Tantrums seem to come out of the blue. And often in the middle of the night, Lumi starts crying uncontrollably. She also has a lot of resentment toward the cats. She *hates* it when the cats sleep on her bed, so of course the cats love sleeping on her bed. If one of the cats sits down on the sofa or carpet near her toys she will shout "no!" and go to try to move the cat. We have been working on not hitting or shoving the cats.
All in all, there is a lot of stereotypical 'terrible two' behavior: tantrums out of nowhere, general non-cooperation. This seemed to get better toward the end of the month, so our hope is that a lot of it was reaction to kimmo suddenly being gone (since he is traveling for work), and now that she realizes that he will come home again, she is more relaxed about it.

Toys/Books/Games

She likes story books these days. It's nice to see her attention span lengthen like this. current favorites are 'pumpkin soup', 'the gruffalo', and 'monkey book' (curious george tales).

Health

She started the month working through a cold.
Since spring has come to Prague, it has been wonderful to go outside in only one layer and no snowsuit. but it means that now her skin is exposed, so we are dealing with daily scrapes and cuts from careless falls.
Fever again on 28/4, fading to a regular stuffy nose by 1/5. Kimmo and I were both working from home that week, and therefore we both watched the 'horsey horsey' song video on youtube hundreds of times with Lumi. It was annoying, but we were grateful that it wasn't the Elmo brushing teeth song.

Random Funny Stuff

She likes to sing on the bus. Most of the time it's a charming rendition of a song she knows, like the alphabet song or twinkle twinkle little star. But sometimes she shouts the words, or does her 'funny voice' that is sort of a fake deep voice. These versions are not loved as much, and don't earn her smiles from old ladies.
This month she finally 'got' the concept of a birthday, inasmuch as it means that someone is celebrating and might get some gifts. We usually point out that this or that toy was a present from someone, so now whenever she picks up one of her birthday presents, she sings just one line "happy birthday to lumi".
