Lumi's 28th Month

Events
5/4 - 5/5: trip to dresden
24/5 - 27/5: trip to Istanbul (visiting Sami and Lotta and their kids Simo and Osmo)

Food
She is very particular about food these days, but will eat almost anything that has butter on it. But only if she can see chunks of butter; melted is not acceptable.
She requests oatmeal (puuro) for breakfast but likes to put her own raisins "on the top". and then she will eat the raisins and not many oats.

Language
There are new words and more sentences every day, at least in English. She loves to sing 'happy birthday' in both Finnish and English, though she has trouble singing to someone else (mostly it's happy birthday to lumi).
20/5 - lumi said 'oh my god' for the first time.

Learning
Lumi is slowly learning how to ride a tricycle. She still loves her 'mopo' (the plastic 3-wheeled thing she got last summer) but is interested in pedaling. Later in the month she stopped caring about it, so we're considering selling it. Lumi is interested in 'same' things. she pointed out a hair clip on a woman on the bus that looked like one of mine.

Behavior
"all by self" has been a wonderful addition to lumi's vocabulary. she will still ask for help if she needs it, but is just discovering the pride of doing something (e.g. going down the slide) without adult assistance. She likes to get on the bus 'all by self' and get into her bed 'all by self'.
She reacts poorly when Isä is traveling. Tantrums increase and she is generally uncooperative. Maybe that is a reaction to Isä leaving; maybe it is a reaction to Äiti in general.

Toys/Books/Games
She is starting to go for slightly more complex toys, like legos (actually building with them herself instead of destroying towers other people have built), and enjoys puzzles. She loves 'drawing', which is coloring things with crayons or markers. We tried painting and she liked it.

Random Funny Stuff
13.5: lumi was being cute and charming and even waved enthusiastically at the bus when it arrived. even the bus driver on the extremely busy rush hour bus thought she was cute and gave her an apple, which she proceeded to happily gnaw on all the way home. we were doing a nanny trial at the time so the czech nanny was there too on the bus with us, and she was floored.
23.5: we saw a guy at the bus stop with a Karhu Olut t-shirt, and struck up a conversation. He wasn't Finnish, but he was an artist who did an exhibit in Tampere, and the t-shirt was a souvenir. I told Lumi that he had a t-shirt from 'Suomi' and she somehow got the idea that his name was Suomi. so then on the bus she couldn't see him and asked 'Where did Suomi go?' and then later with a smile 'Suomi go to Villa Luna?'
