Otso's 27th Month

Summary
Otso is more emotional now, and more responsive in general. He repeats almost everything he hears, which everyone except Lumi finds very cute.

Development
20.12 switched to forward-facing car seat
2.1 at the puppet theater, he watched the whole thing (about an hour).

Language
This language bath during Christmas was good. He learned several new words and phrases in Finnish.
gymnastics is something like "nastiss".
17.1 seems to mix up the english rhyme "peek-a-boo! I see you!" with the finnish muumi character Pikku Myy. while he wore his Pikku Myy moccasins, he pointed and said "Pikku Myy! I see you!"
He repeats almost everything people say, which drives Lumi crazy.

Social
He loved playing with his cousins.


Toys/Games/Other
He loves to sing, but seems kind of shy about doing it around us. Apparently at barnehage it's one of his favorite things.
He learned the American alphabet song.
At the Kari house, he played a soccer game on the tablet with teenage Teemu and loved it.
He loved the dress-up Barbie heels.
16.1 got really excited about the menu screen for the movie "Cinderella," shouting "giant pumpkin!" and pointing at the screen every time the pumpkin turned into a carraige.

Eating
When he's healthy, he eats enormous amounts. The best thing is that he really enjoys vegetables and protein. He likes pasta, too, but he isn't very focused on bread. He loves "carrot soup" but he also is generous with the label "carrot soup" -- e.g. the broth for butter chicken (which has no carrots) is "carrot soup"
Over Christmas in Nakkila, he ate enormous amounts of food. Favorites were boiled carrots and christmas ham. He even started the chant "more meat!" which was adopted by Elsa too.
7.1 finished off dinner by eating the chicken drippings out of the roasting pan with a spoon. it was impressive.

Sleeping
He slept in a crib in Nakkila. He resisted naps and bedtime and cried and tried to climb out of the crib. After maybe 10 minutes, he settled (with a toy or a set of keys or a promise of a back rub).
He had trouble sleeping the whole night in his bed starting in Helsinki, and when we got back to Oslo. Hopefully this goes away soon!
11.1 stayed in his crib the whole night.

Health
11.1 during dinner he asked to go caca and he said "big boy" a few times. he tried on the potty but wasn't successful and shortly afterward went in his diaper. but then after he went to bed, he was farting and said he needed to caca. we took him to the potty and he sat and read a book and produced a bit! he proudly carried the potty to the bathroom and wanted to dump it himself into the toilet.

31.12 at dinner, he had been playing with Elmo in the other room, then he came in and announced "Ei sattuu!" ("it doesn't hurt! ")  without explanation of what might have hurt.
