Summary
Overall, it's been a great month for behavior for Lumi. She has been genuinely helpful with Otso and she's eating better too. Also, it's warming up around here and everything is easier (no snowsuits, no boots, no layer of wool under clothes), which is nice.

She is still not speaking very much Finnish at all, but her Norwegian and English are doing just fine.
She has picked up the rhetorical "are you serious?", as in "Where are your shoes?" "Äiti, are you serious? They're right here."
Learning
Both kids have been enjoying a new chore: throwing the trash bags down the chute. kimmo closes and ties the bags and then leaves them in the kitchen. the first kid who finds it is allowed to throw it out (open the door to the service elevator closet, open the hatch to the chute, put the bag in the hole, and close the chute).
Social
We had a lovely trip to Stavanger and really enjoyed seeing our old friends. Gemma and Lumi had a great time, and Lumi enjoyed Clémence too. She was especially taken with Marie, who had just turned 4 months old.

For a couple of weeks now, we have seen some real big-sisterly behavior. She helps Otso with little things, and shares with him, and gently encourages him to follow household rules. One of our favorites is that sometimes on weekend mornings we get to lay in bed for an extra 30 minutes while she helps him get toys out (and even remind him to do his morning potty!) and they amuse themselves peacefully for a while. It's wonderful.
Leisure
10.5 we're having lovely warm weather, so the kids brought swim suits and played with water at barnehage.
Food
She has been doing a better job lately of eating. Several times she told Gemma "you gotta try new food 'cause it might taste good!" (from Daniel Tiger).

She loved the game "Bug Attack" at Helena's house.
We have a Lego Star Wars search-and-find book, and Lumi enjoys it. She has some friends at barnehage who are into Star Wars. We were looking through the book one day and Lumi asked "but where is Star Wars?" and "Star Wars" sounded really Norwegian the way she said it. So I launched into a long explanation about how Star Wars is all of this, and compared it to "My Little Pony" versus the individual ponies. I thought I was doing great, but then the next page, she pointed at Lego Darth Vader and said "there's Star Wars!". Oh. I explained a bit about Darth Vader and now she is really interested and though I think she is still too young for the movies, I think she will like some of the stories.

Also, the rule about "5 pieces because I'm 5" is working well most of the time.
14.5 she tried both brioche with melted cheese on it and gyoza.

since it's warmer, kimmo has been buying melons (mostly watermelon) to share with the kids in the evenings. they love it.
4.5 fell at barnehage and cut the back of her head open.

17.5 still not feeling well. we went out for about an hour for 17 Mai but she looked awful. (kimmo said "sad zombie").

8.5 we went to a kids jazz show at the Mai Jazz festival in Stavanger. Lumi enthusiastically responded and was a very vocal crowd participant.
